About Janet Kahn

In 1996, educator Janet Kahn was given the task to create an art and music program for the elementary school students of Albuquerque Public Schools. Janet expanded the program from 22 teachers to roughly 100 teachers who offer the gift of music and art to our district’s youngest students. Janet often said this was the hardest and the most rewarding work she had ever done.

Janet lost her battle to a rare form of cancer on January 15, 2016 at the age of 68. Janet was a dreamer and a doer, an innovator and an educator. She was a soft voice and a huge presence. Janet transformed something small and neglected into something truly special.

We celebrate Janet's memory by naming our school in her honor, and by continuing to offer outstanding arts education to the students of Albuquerque Public Schools.

In 2023. we completed a brand new construction of our school. Our entire school campus has been rebuilt, so all of our facilities are modern, beautiful and highly conducive to student learning.
